Imagine a tool, that stands amidst culture and biodiversity. A tool that promises to redefine how we engage with our natural heritage. A bridge that connects indigenous knowledge with modern conservation practices fostering a dialogue that honors traditions while safeguarding the environment. The bio-cultural tool is meant to facilitate asserting rights over communally managed lands, marine areas and resources and traditional knowledge systems.
Through SIEMENPUU foundation, LAMU WOMEN ALLIANCE was able to come up with a community land protection project in Lamu county. Through this project LAWA was able to now come up with the Bio-Cultural Protocol tool to strengthen biodiversity. During the launch LAWA presented the BCP tool in form of a book that contained terms and conditions to the governments, private sectors, and research organs for engaging with communities and accessing their local research. A map highlighting all natural resources was also launched in hand with the BCP tool.

Speaking during the launch on 1st October at Mwana Arafa Lamu county, the program officer for the project Fatma Farah, stated that the BCP book will forever act as a shield from any harmful projects towards women in Lamu County. She insisted that through the BCP tool LAWA seeks to empower women advocate for their rights and promote sustainable resource management.

Raya Famau, the executive director, Lamu Women Alliance concluded by thanking everyone who took part in making of the BCP Tool, including the community that was willingly to give out information.
