This September, the world came together for the Global Days of Action from 19–21 September 2025, to send a powerful message: enough is enough. From every corner of the globe, communities rose up to draw the line against fossil fuels, corporate greed, and the injustices driving the climate crisis.
Here in Lamu, the call was no different. As Lamu Women Alliance, we joined hands with community members and partners to take part in the Draw the Line campaign. Our message was clear, Lamu’s future cannot and must not be sacrificed at the altar of dirty energy projects.

For years now, women in Lamu have carried the heaviest burden of climate impacts whether through declining fish stocks, shifting weather patterns that affect farming, or threats to health and livelihoods. When projects that endanger our environment are introduced it is women, children, and marginalized groups who suffer first and most.
During the action days, we stood united in solidarity with other global justice movements. Our action in Lamu reaffirmed our opposition to destructive fossil fuel projects in our county, particularly the proposed coal power plant that would endanger our rich cultural heritage, marine ecosystems, and way of life. We joined voices with our allies to say:
1. No to fossil fuel tyranny.
2. Yes to people power and community-led solutions.
3.Yes to renewable energy and a just transition.
What made this campaign powerful was not just the act of saying no it was the spirit of reclaiming our voice, our dignity, and our future. Women led chants, young people painted banners, and elders reminded us of the heritage we must protect. Together, we showed that the fight for climate justice is about protecting both people and planet.
As world leaders meet at the UN General Assembly ahead of COP30 in Brazil, our call from Lamu echoes far beyond our shores, listen to frontline communities, invest in real solutions, and stop sacrificing lives for profit.
We may be a small community on the Kenyan coast, but our voice is part of a global chorus. And together, we are drawing the line for climate justice, for equity, and for the generations to come.
